What Blitz? |
Invitation |
Sponsorit ]
The famous Urban Blitz, the winter edition of the Nordic Euro Convention Mosquito Meeting, is this year sub-urban. No houses or warm buildings, and no mosquitoes either! Get to meet the other dweebs of the skies and share your tactics in the scandinavian dark and cold winter! Experience the snow activities and the Finnish nature!
The traditional 3rd annual Blitz is arranged by VLeLv ICEBREAKERS. In the meeting you have a possibility to fly with the best, the ugliest and the most modest real-life fighter pilots and to join real-life activities with real-life people! Sauna, shooting range and offroad (snow) vechiles are available and in use at the site!
For more images see OK's image gallery or the Team Ahma video clips page (huge but hilarious).
What Blitz...? - First day
Kossu from EZ Targets is telling his experiences with stupid customers. From left to right you see Grendel / ICE, PJK / JG3, Zombie / ICE and in Kossu's right side Birra / Blitz organizer. In front of Birra is the Blitz network router.
|
PJK / JG 3 is clearly talking about the Me 109, as he holds a 109 book and others are listening to him At the front of picture are Kynkky and Aino from Moosefly, Kossu/EZ Targets and Birra at far left. Zombie behind PJK.

Four horrible hours when beer supplies started run low. Finally the supply transport arrived and made everyone very happy again. Tern had interesting discovery when he noticed that in one machine, pressing a joystick button caused pilot to eject.
Quite likely one of the most weird con experiences was after folks finished grilling sausages and started singing. Cosmo had a students songbook filled with drinking songs. In the dead of the night people gathered around the one miniatyre songbook and Zombie pointed the flashlight on the book. It was dark, you know, couldn't see anything otherwise. And we sang, sang. Finally returned to the main building and gave a drunken concert.
Gniko / Kuusamon Aavikkotorpeedoeskadroona 1 and VISA / ICE were the first ones to lose their consiousness in Day 1. Visa later made a successfull high altitude bounce on Kossu who was sleeping on the floor next to VISA's bed. Kossu woke up and found out that he has been vulched but escaped situation by disengaging and grabbin for E, ending up in the bed VISA just vacated. Gniko's sleeping on the other hand sounded quite like a malfunctionin Merlin.
What Blitz...? - Second day

Zombie and OK decided to spend the first night outdoors! Maybe the going was waayyyy too hot inside... |
|
Gniko is carrying a garden brownie (puutarhatonttu) for shotgun shooting. This particular little Santa's helped was a hard one. It survived a perfect shotgun hit at 40 meters.

Tern had interesting discovery when he noticed that in one machine, pressing a joystick button caused pilot to eject. Also, two machines were for a while dedicated for the H2H competition. THERE, pressing one joystick button muted BOTH machines and WarBirds had to be restarted to get sounds back. Also many very weird keyboard setups were found, especially from Team Ahma's machines. Even starting the engine was next to impossible and don't even dream of trimming unless someone shows you the correct keys.
We even remembered to discuss the air combat tactics. These lectures were held in sauna and the dressing room. Things started with Grendel beginning the discussion about scissors and their use in ACM. The sauna was filled to the door, with as many guys squeezing to sitting places as possible, more sitting in the foot space, some in anything somewhat level and rest standing. Afterwards PJK followed with the 109 combat tactics discussion. Results of the discussion were nicely found in later online fight.
After the excellent theory session everything was clear. Filled with self confidence I rolled to test the tactics in the air.

Teacher G: | Couple cons in F22 |
Student C: | Vis, taking the second |
| (Student C dives into attack. After several mega-G-blackout maneuvres Student C is in the six of the enemy) |
Student C: | ok, I'm getting him |
Teacher G: | The other one is on your six |
Student C: | Hey, I hit him |
Teacher G: | You have 109 in your six |
Student C: | He's almost goner, I hit him again |
Teacher G: | He's shooting |
Student C: | HAHAHHAHA I got him - HEY I HAVE SOMEONE IN MY SIX, HELP |
Teacher G: | (sigh) ok I'm trying |
Student C: | No hurry, I'm going to hook him with scissors |
Student C: | Starging scissors |
| (KABOOM) |
Teacher G: | Good one, good one. You had the basics right, just the timing was wrong |
Student C: | Ah, oh I thought that there was something... |
Teacher G: | You see, scissors must be started BEFORE you have lost your other wing |
Student C: | Ahaa, ok, now I get it, now I get it |
Conclusion: just like in ski jumping, timing is important with scissors |

Pity we didn't get a picture of watery snow coming down(?) horizontally (Flakpanzer oil took out the guys with camera, or at least they weren't able to operate such delicate instruments, I presume). It was -15°C (30.6F) on the first night outside, and it was windy. Second night was easier, only -5°C (48.6F).

Blitz in the news?
The Sub-urban Blitz gained some news coverage in the online gaming magazines and sites, have a look at the clips in the Mikrobitti Magazine (finnish only) (www.mikrobitti.fi), combatsim.com (www.combatsim.com) or cdmag.com (www.cdmag.com). And there was more but we just did not see those...
